Aljerin Lee Butler Obituary
Aljerin Lee Butler Jr was born on October 4th, 1951, to his mother, Earline (Hunter) Butler (deceased) and father, Aljerin Lee Butler Sr (deceased) in Mebane, North Carolina. He was the middle child of three, with a younger sister Teresa Butler Foster and older sister Cecelia Laverne Butler. Growing up Aljerin (Al) was a studious and inquisitive child, often finding ways to rebuild everyday items, such as his sister Laverne’s Cinderella watch. Soon after this, he realized his love for engineering.
He went on to graduate from McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C. and ventured to North Carolina to attend the illustrious North Carolina Agriculture & Technological College (NCAT) of which he was a proud alum of the class of 1975. During his college years, he worked with his father Aljerin Lee Butler Sr at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Fort Meade, Maryland. Soon after graduating he got his first job at Magnavox in Fort Wayne, Indiana. After his time at Magnavox, he received a job at Raytheon Technologies (now RTX Corporation) in Wayland, Massachusetts during the early 80’s where he worked for over 10 years. Shortly after leaving Raytheon, he began working at Wang Labs in Lowell, Massachusetts. Little did he know, here he would meet his wife Lanita DeLaissear (Butler). The pair dated for three years before getting married on June 17th, 1989, in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends. Five years later, they welcomed their daughter Alexys Nicole Butler with much excitement and joy! Over the next 30 plus years they went on to raise Alexys, their nephew Carlos DeLaissear, Godson Tavar Johnson and their God-Daughter Elizabeth Robinson.
Al was an active community member, belonging to the South Middlesex Men’s Club for over 10 years. He also was an active member of the Middlesex Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) serving as their Treasurer for several years. He spent much of his adult life participating in a number of ministries within Greater Framingham Community Church (GFCC) for which he and his family have been members of for over 30 years. While serving, he contributed greatly to Mission and Outreach by purchasing food packages as well as delivering them to families in need. He also served on the AV Ministry, Computer Ministry, and was secretary of the Men’s Christian Fellowship (MCF). He valued spending time with young people, tutoring young engineering students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for a number of years.
He was a devout man of God, reading his devotional every morning and being an avid participant of Men’s Bible Study at GFCC. In his downtime, Al was an avid fan of the science fiction genre, watching it most in movies and reading it in books. He enjoyed watching Star Trek, MSNBC, Anime (Cartoons such as Dragonball-Z) and a plethora of documentaries on history, science and any other subjects that interested him. He was a lover of jazz, playing it loudly while reading or getting ready in the morning. He was a family man, enjoying time surrounded by his wife and daughters at the beach on the 4th of July, attending Sunday Service at GFCC, visiting Maryland to see all of his loved ones. He enjoyed the holidays and was happy to create memories with people. Years ago, he wrote in an email “At the end of my life, I would like people to say, ‘you’re a good man Charlie Brown’, but I’ll settle for well done, my good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21
He was a supportive husband, a present and hilarious father and loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 35 years, Lanita (DeLaissear) Butler, his daughters Alexys Butler (Columbia, MD), Elizabeth Robinson (Marlboro, MA), Marisa Holley-Creek (Washington DC), nieces Raychon Holt and Evan Dickens (Bowie, MD) Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lowe (Waldorf, MD), Ariana Pickett (Fayetteville, NC) Mr. & Mrs. Shawn Strickland (Middletown, CT), sister-in-law Rose Parker (Manchester, CT) and nephews Kyran Butler (Clinton MD), Carlos DeLaissear (Jacksonville, FL), Shaun Parker (Manchester, CT) and Godsons Tavar Johnson (Hempstead, NH) and Shon Black (Marlboro, MA). He also leaves behind his beloved first cousin Bernadette McDonald (Fayetteville, NC).
A visitation for Al will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 9:00-10:00 am at the Greater Framingham Community Church, 44 Franklin Street, Framingham, MA 01702.
