Aurore Laplante

Sister Aurore Laplante( Marie Bernadette), 88, a Sister of St. Chretienne for the past 69 yrs., died suddenly on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Marie Esther Health Center, Marlborough, MA.
Born in Rumford, ME on May 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Henri and Maria( Cyr) Laplante.
Sr. Aurora entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of St. Chretienne in Giffard, PQ in 1938.
Following teacher training, Sr. Aurore devoted herself to the education of children at the elementary level, teaching in Giffard, PQ, Amesbury, MA , Pawtucket, RI, and Mexico, ME.
In 1976 Sr. tended to the elderly and sick parishioners in Rumford, ME, and later Salem, MA, where she was a companion to the elderly.
In 1999 she moved to the retirement residence of the Sisters of St. Chretienne in Marlborough. Sr. Aurore was gracious and kind, a compassionate presence among her Sisters and the people she visited. As a teacher she was devoted to her children. She loved her congregation and was dedicated to prayer and her religious life.
She is survived by her brothers, Wilfred Laplante and his wife Ella, of Rumford, ME, and Maurice Laplante of Houston, TX, her sister, Sr. Odile Laplante , a Grey Nun of St. Hyacinthe, PQ Canada. She was predeceased by her stepmother, Eva ( Lacroix) Laplante, her sisters, Jeannette and Rose and her brothers, Roland and Claude.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 30, at 10:30 am at the chapel of the St. Chretienne Retirement Residence, 197 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Visiting hrs.will be held on Tuesday, December 29, from 4-7 pm at the St. Chretienne Retirement Residence.
