It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Elizabeth (Betty) Evangelous. She died peacefully at the age of 94.

She was born in Marlborough, MA on January 20, 1932 to Dominic Pietroluongo and his wife Rose (Russo) and was married to Achilles (Killy) Evangelous for 66 years until his passing in 2017. Betty graduated from St. Anne’s Academy in 1949 and received her bachelor’s degree in 1977 from Framingham State College.  She had a long career including Mutual Shoe company, Marlborough District Court, Raytheon and as the Office Manager for Dr. Matthew Butler for the past 30 years. Betty retired at the age of 93.

Betty was a woman ahead of her time.  She was full of life and had endless energy.  Most importantly she was a loving, caring and devoted, mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.  She was dedicated to her two sons and supported them through all their interests, celebrated them and guided them through life’s transitions.  She was very civically and socially minded.  She served on city and state committees, and ran several city council candidate campaigns.  Betty was a born caretaker. She was happiest when she was helping other people live the best lives they could.  She was extremely generous with her time, love and compassion.    

She was a life long member of the Sons of Italy Mass Lodge 240.  Many Marlborough senior residents will remember the wonderful bus trips she and her sister Fran planned over the past many years.  She was predeceased by her husband Killy, brother, Raffaele Pietroluongo, and her sister, Frances Brescia.  Betty is survived by her sons, Ralph Evangelous and his wife Donna of Hampstead, NC, and Anthony Evangelous and his wife Fabiana of Marlborough, MA. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Michael, Alexis, Chad and his wife Liz, Meghan, Nick, and his wife Anna, Damian, Katie, Tyler and his wife Barbara. Betty also had 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. 

Visiting hours for Betty will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 2:00 pm at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 244 W. Main Street, Northborough, MA 01532. Burial will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11:15 am at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, where she will join her husband Killy.
