Frederick K. Heim

Frederick K. Heim, 86, a one of a kind skilled craftsman, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 7th, 2026, surrounded by his children. 

He was the son of the late Gustav and Dorothy (Sherbune) Heim and husband of Rachel (Wheelock) Heim, to whom he’d been married almost 67 years. Frederick spent the majority of his childhood in Lovell, Maine, where his passion for woodworking began.

Craftsmanship was not only a career for him, but a passion to develop his community and provide families with their American dream. His talent went beyond homes including building full size boats as well as half scale models. He has been showcased at museums, television, and magazines. One of his best works of art was the crisscraft boat he named Rachel H. which he handcrafted and designed for his wife.  

Though he loved his career, the love of his life was his wife Rachel. Over the years he has bragged that he knew right away they would get married, he has always been determined. After tying the knot they went on to have 5 children, whom they have always had close relationships with. Throughout the years he has valued family time and creating memories with his children and extended family. Some of our foundest memories are family dinners, where he would always say this meal is your best yet, even if it was a take out. Throughout his lifetime he maintained many long term friendships that he held close to his heart. Many of these friendships were developed from his work but have truly lasted a lifetime. 

Frederick was predeceased by many loved ones including his grandson, Timothy Lane and his son, David Heim. He often expressed comfort in knowing that they will one day reunite along with all of his beloved pets over his lifetime. You will find his love in creative moments and at times of spontaneity. You will find his strength when you doubt your own abilities. He will be deeply missed by anyone who was impacted by his spirit.

Frederick is survived by his children, Rick Heim and his wife Sherene, Michael Heim and his wife Paulette, Pamela Lane and her husband Mike and Lauren Heim. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alexandra, Gabriella, Dylan, Haley, Candace, Maxwell, Kyle, Kurt, Charlotte, Rachel, Abby, Samantha and Joe and his great grandchildren Omar, Sylvia, Isla and Julian and his brother, Gus Heim.

Visiting hours for Frederick will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 11:00 am at the First Church in Marlborough, 37 High Street, Marlborough, MA. Burial will be private.
