George Lacouture Obituary

George W. Lacouture, 86, of Marlborough, MA, died Tue. Aug. 4, 2009 at his home, following an illness of several months.

Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Hilaire and Alexina ( Lattinville) Lacouture, and the husband of the late Eleanor (Girourd) Lacouture, who died in 1998.

A graduate of Marlborough High School, Class in 1941, he enlisted in the US Army. Following his basic training he joined the elite Office of Special Forces (OSS), predecessor of the CIA. His ability to speak French aided the team in their mission of sabotaging the efforts of German Forces, as well as supporting the French resistance and supplying the French Underground with supplies. With the liberation of France, Mr. Lacouture joined the 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed and fought throughout Europe and Africa. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good conduct Medal. His service as an Atomic War Veteran, Airborne Ranger and member of Company B 505th Parachute Inf. Regiment was a proud and significant part of his life.

He was employed by General Motors Corp. for over 40 yrs. where at the time of his retirement he was foreman. He was also employed by the former Jordan Marsh Company, Framingham as manager of the men's dept.

He was a member of St. Matthias Parish, and a former member of St. Mary's Parish, Marlborough, a member of the Cozy Café Breakfast Club, the ITAM Club, the AmVets Post 1980, the Marlborough Fish and Game and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3565.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Lacouture, of Stow, ME, Matthew Lacouture of Marlborough, his daughters, Monique Fields and her husband Steve, of Green Castle, IN, Martha Shea, of Hudson, his sister, Blanche Combs ,of Newburyport and his sister in law, Sophie Lacouture, of Marlborough, his grandchildren, Jody and Jason Lacouture, Joseph Fields,and Devon Shea, and his great granddaughter Amber Lacouture. He was also the father of the late Michelle Demers, and the brother of the late David and Henry Lacouture, Rhea Tebo, Lillian Naze, Irene Colombo, Anita Bliss, Rose Kenney, Alma Martel, and Corinne Klyshevich.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Sat. Aug. 8, at 10:00 am in St. Matthias Church, Hemenway St., Marlborough. Visiting hrs will be held on Fri. Aug. 7, from 4-7 pm in the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
