Helen Speranzella Obituary

Helen G. (Carr) Speranzella, 85, of Marlborough, died Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the Coleman House in Northborough, MA.

She was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Marshall) Carr and wife of the late Charles R. Speranzella who died in 2013. Helen was also predeceased by her brother James Carr.

In her teenage years she grew an appreciation for sports. Helen was proud to have been nominated “Most Athletic” in her Marlborough High School yearbook. She was quite the basketball player and even was a member of the semi-pro women’s basketball team, The Rockettes. That passion for sports continued throughout her life. She loved to golf and achieved three hole-in-ones and later in life brought much spunk and quick wit to her fantasy football and baseball leagues. She enjoyed cheering for both the Red Sox and Patriots every season and was an avid pitch player. Helen worked at both Raytheon and Digital Corporation where she formed many friendships. Helen and her late husband, Charles “Ray” Speranzella, moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida for over twenty years, and enjoyed the extended golf season, but upon his passing she was excited to return to her Marlborough roots. What brought Helen her greatest joy without a doubt, was spending time with her family. She cherished every early morning call from her two sons, holiday celebrations, FaceTime calls or visits with grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as lunch dates or long phone calls she shared with her close circle of girlfriends. Helen made her family and friends smile and laugh but most of all feel loved.

Her spirited warmth will be missed.

She is survived by her sons, Tony Speranzella and his wife Liz of Hopkinton and Mark Speranzella and his longtime companion Joanne Math of Beverly Hills, CA, her brother, Frederick Carr of CA and her grandchildren, Jenna Engelhardt, Erica Ballensky, Mark Speranzella, Mike Speranzella, Brett Speranzella, Nick Speranzella and Lauren Speranzella. She is also survived by her very special great-grandchildren, Bailey, Weston, Brynn, Wyatt, Evan and Amelia.

A private celebration of Helen’s life and graveside service will be held at a later time this Spring.
