Herbert J Simpson

Herbert J. Simpson, 90, of Marlborough, died Monday, May 22, 2023, at Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester.

He was the son of the late William Simpson and Ada M. Garlitz Simpson. He is survived by his wife Dawn Thompson Simpson, of 17 years, son Herbert Simpson Jr and his wife Lois Simpson, and stepson Scott Thompson. Herbert was predeceased by his late wives Catherine Simpson and Marjorie Simpson, brother William Simpson, and sisters Dolores O’Brian and Helen Drew.

Herbert served 22 years in the military and retired as First Sergeant of the Army. He was a Free Mason for many years. After the military Herbert went into the shoe business and owned several stores. He also had a love for children and volunteered every year, while he could, at Crotched Mountain in New Hampshire. Herbert spent a lot of his time preaching and teaching at the First United Methodist Church in Hudson.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023, from 5—7 PM at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church, 34 Felton Street, Hudson, MA 01749. A burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
