Joan M. (McNeill) LaMachia Obituary

Joan M. LaMachia, 87, of Marlborough, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, surrounded by her family.

She was the daughter of the late James and Mona (McLaughlin) McNeill and the beloved wife of the late David L. LaMachia II, to whom she was married for fifty years until his passing in 2009. Joan was predeceased by her son, Thomas LaMachia, and her siblings, Margaret Mahler, Mona Sullivan, William McNeill, Elizabeth Brady, and James McNeill.

Joan was born in Brighton, Massachusetts, and attended St. Columbkille High School. She met the love of her life, David LaMachia, at a local dance in Brighton, and they were married on her birthday, May 2, 1959. They settled in Marlborough, where they raised their five children, first on King’s View Road and later at their home on Hosmer Street.

Through the years, theirs was a “full house” — filled with babies, diapers, church, laundry, schoolwork, family dinners, sleepovers, a variety of pets, colds and flus, and trips to Sudbury Medical Center. There were backyard barbecues, house projects, skiing in the yard, swimming in the pool, apple picking, and countless baseball, soccer, and hockey games, as well as dance recitals. Joan created a home where the table was always full, welcoming, and inclusive.

Later in life, after their children were grown, Joan and Dave moved to Cape Cod, where they enjoyed a quieter life filled with new friendships, church, the beach, golf, and cherished family gatherings. After Dave passed away, Joan moved back to Marlborough at New Horizons where she was a vibrant part of the community attending church, swimming in the pool, playing cards and part of the everyday activities with friends there with family visiting regularly.

Her legacy of family, faith, and caring for one another will continue to inspire all who knew her, bringing lasting joy and connection.

She is survived by her children, David L. LaMachia III; Joan LaMachia and her husband, Alex Bingham; Peter LaMachia; and Stephen LaMachia. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jeremy, Lucy, Dennison, Devon, Madison, Hailey, and Stephanie; and her great-grandchildren, Elyse, Ella, and Jack.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Slattery Funeral Home Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect Street, Marlborough.
