Lawrence J. Grella Jr., 84, of Marlborough, passed away on July 9, 2021 at his home after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis (Coletti) and three sons, Lawrence J. Grella III and his wife, Gail Biedermann, Steve Grella, Jeffrey Grella and his wife, Sue (Martin) and grandchildren, Gina Joyce and her husband, Robert Maiden, Angela Grella and her partner Joe Uryasz, his grandson, Jake Grella and his daughter-in-law Rhonda Taylor Grella. He so enjoyed seeing his great grandchildren, Landen, Leo and Josephine Uryasz, Margaux and Elizabeth Maiden. He is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence J. Grella and Gertrude (Deverix) Grella and his two sisters, Pauline Connell and Rita Day.
Larry spent four years in the United States Navy, most of it onboard the USS Columbus where he began his trade as an electrician. On return from the service he worked at Raytheon, Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Polaroid Corporation as an electrician while taking classes at Northeastern University.
In his spare time Larry loved to be on the water, skiing and boating on Ft. Meadow and Cape Cod, snow skiing the mountains of Colorado and locally in Vermont, New Hampshire and Mt. Wachusett.
He was surrounded by the love of family and friends and whenever asked as he fought his way through multiple cancers he answered, “I’m not ready to go yet!”
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA 01752. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception CHURCH, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough, MA.
