Lawrence "Bud" Mungeam Obituary

Lawrence A. “Bud” Mungeam of Marlborough, MA died peacefully early the morning of December 22, 2023.  He had just turned 92 years old.  Bud was the loving husband of Alice for 60 years and leaves behind 4 children, Linda Duprey, Gary, Scott and Tracy, 6 grandchildren as well as great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He is pre-deceased by his parents Leonard and Ruth, and all his siblings Gretta Norton, Lee, Virginia Wheeler, and Alan.  He is also pre-deceased by many of his friends, but his lifelong friend Norman Wheeler and wife Karoline visited his bedside the afternoon before he passed.

Bud was a good person, loving spouse and father, and loyal friend.  He would help anyone if they asked and would offer if they didn’t.  He has been called “fun uncle” and “best brother-in-law in the world”.  When asked about his life he remarked “what more could I have asked for.”

Bud grew up in the small town of Berlin, MA, where he enjoyed the rural area.  He shared memories of building a log cabin along the Assabet River with his brother Alan and friends.  He was entrepreneurial from a young age.  In high school he started raising chickens and with the proceeds he built his first house at the age of 18 in Berlin.  He later worked at Fenwal, Sylvania, Honeywell and ultimately for himself in real estate.  He enjoyed his work and had the drive and persistence to figure out most anything.

He met his wife Alice through friends, and they had their first date on Cape Cod - Bud joked that it took several weeks to finally get a second date.  On many dates they would go dancing and later were the couple dancing the twist at weddings.  They were life and business partners, always holding hands.

Bud loved going to Cape Cod, where he had a boat from a young age, back when you could anchor your boat at Heights Beach.  He later built our house there, where he would boat, swim, and dig quahogs and clams-even at age 90 he would clamber out of his boat and happily dig enough quahogs for lunch.  He loved Mustangs from the 1960s and enjoyed restoring them and driving them through Berlin and the surrounding towns.  He also enjoyed travel and visited a number of national parks.

Family and friends are invited to the ringing of the Passing Bell at First Parish Church of Berlin on Friday January 5 at sunset (approx. 4:20 pm) to recognize his death.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
