Leonard A. (“Len”) Tremblay, 97, of Marlborough passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2021 at home with his beloved wife of 77 years, Phyllis I. (Fortin) Tremblay, at his side.
Len was born in Marlborough, the son of the late Arthur E. and Sadie (Ward) Tremblay. He served in the Army Air Corps. during WWII as an engine mechanic on the B-17 and B-24 bombers. After the war, he started a trucking company called Public Parcel Delivery Service, which he later sold and became Marlboro Transportation. He was then employed by New England Telephone Company as a lineman, installer, Central Office and PBX Technician for nearly 30 years. After retiring from the phone company, he worked as a telephone technician at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge until 1988.
Len was known as an avid boater, starting with a small kit boat he built with his son in the 1950’s.The boats grew larger and larger over the years until the last one, the Budskit, which was a 36-foot Cabin Cruiser on the ocean. He also volunteered his time as a lighting and set designer for Sweet Adeline and Barber Shop productions.
Len was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, American Legion Post #100, the Telephone Pioneers of America, and L'Union Saint Jean-Baptiste d'Amerique.
Besides his wife, Len is survived by two sons, Leonard A. Tremblay, Jr. and his wife Jeannine of Merrimack NH, and Attorney Michael J. Tremblay and his wife Kathleen of Hudson. He also leaves his grandchildren: Mark, Sean, Jason, Abigail and Sadie; his great-grandchildren Brianna, AnnMarie, Nicholas, Jayden, Beckett and Carlisle, and a great-great granddaughter Isabella. He was also the brother of the late Raymond Tremblay and Lillian Brunelle.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, February 14, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc. 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA 01752.A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough, MA 01752. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough MA with full military honors. Due to Covid-19, a celebration of life will be held at a later date when it is safe for loved ones to gather.
