Margaret Mary Scott, aged 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born December 30, 1939, in Boston Massachusetts, the daughter of William and Margaret Norton.
Margaret was a joy in the lives of all who knew her, and the center of the beloved family she created. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert (“Bob”) William Scott, her daughter, Coleen Baldelli and her husband Thomas, her son Keith Scott and his wife Cathy, and her son Shaun. She was predeceased by her brother, Peter Norton. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren: Scott Baldelli, Meghan Fay, Sarah Harrington, Kayleigh Scott, Cody Scott, Cara Mullen, Nikki Andrade, Brooke Scott, Taylor Scott, Paige Scott, and Ryliegh Scott, and 13 great-grandchildren – and counting!
Margaret was a graduate of St. Michael’s Academy in Hudson Massachusetts and Assabet’s dental assisting program. While at St. Michael’s, she developed close friendships with many of her classmates, which she maintained throughout her life. They even held reunions of the W.O.W. – “wacky old women” – as they got older. In her professional life, she worked for many years as a dental assistant at an orthodontic practice in Berlin and ended her career with Endodontic Associates.
Those who knew Margaret will remember her fiercely independent spirit, her love of her family and friends, and her favorite place in the world – Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester. Bob and Margaret bought a small cottage in Gloucester in the 1970s and fixed it up over the years to be the vacation spot of choice for their extended family.
Margaret loved to bake, often tweaking an already good recipe to include an unexpected ingredient – as a result, and unfortunately for recipients, you rarely got the same bread twice. She was always up for an adventure – digging for old bottles and treasure, long walks looking for beach glass at the beach, or a weekend of camping. Over the years, Margaret and Bob moved frequently, and spent lots of time renovating houses.
Margaret’s legacy will be the love and affection she lavished on her family. She was the most thoughtful and considerate matriarch, and made every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild feel so special. She taught her family that the little things are the big things, and what is most important is the time you spend together and the memories you make. She lived by the mantra of Mother Theresa: “we can do no great things, only small things with great love.”
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 10:00-11:30 at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM following visiting hours in the funeral home. A private burial will be held by Margaret's family at a later date.
The family would like to thank Whitney Place Assisted Living and Brookhaven Hospice for the love and care they showed Margaret in the last months of her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (www.davethomasfoundation.org) which is dedicated to helping foster children in North America find permanent homes through adoption.
