Marie Mangan, of Hudson, MA, died Monday, October 7, 2024, at the JHC Hospice Center in Worcester.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Mangan, of Killarney and Dublin, Ireland, and by her brother, John Mangan of Fitchburg, MA, her sister, Sheelagh and her husband Roland Desjardins, Sr. of Phoenix, Arizona. She also leaves her brother Frank Mangan and his wife Margaret of Shrewsbury, MA and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, too many to list individually.
Marie graduated from Loreto Convent, St. Stephens Green Dublin and The College of Commerce, Rathmines, Dublin, as a Secretary. As a young adult, Marie loved movies, reading, travel, tennis, writing poetry, cooking, theater and studied theater and was in several amateur plays and musicals, was a member of the Irish League of Health, The Legion of Mary and The Aerobic Stop Fitness group. She loved exercise and Camogie, tennis, aerobics, yoga, reading and walking. She had a gift for making and keeping friends and kept up these activities until she and her mother emigrated to the USA in 1974. They were proud American Citizens but never forgot their love for Ireland. Marie spent many years as a Senior Executive Assistant to one of the Senior Vice Presidents at Digital Equipment Corp., a job which she loved, and made many new friends there while also maintaining her friendships in Ireland. Marie was also involved over many years in several Ministries in her Church, St. Matthias of Hemenway Street in Marlborough, including the Eucharistic Ministry, Greeter Ministry, Baking Ministry and ran the Prayer Group. She was a proud blood donor from age 18 to her late seventies and was an organ donor.
She loved all animals but particularly her rescue dogs, providing each of them a loving home.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 11:00AM at St. Matthias Parish, 409 Hemenway Street, Marlborough. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Beach Street, Marlborough.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Buddy Dog Rescue, Sudbury, MA or to St. Jude’s Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, or to St. Matthias Parish, Hemenway St., Marlborough, Massachusetts.
