Mary “Polly” Dacus, 87, died Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at her home surrounded by her four children.
She was the daughter of the late Langston and Irene (Hartley) Tolbert and wife of the late Kermit Dacus Jr. Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Theresa Lynn. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Edward “Buddy” Tolbert, Dorothy Price, Mozelle Ford, Edna Harmon and Owen Tolbert.
Mary was born and raised in North Carolina. She attended Blowing Rock High School and after graduating went into business. She met Kermit on a blind date and knowing it was true love and they were soulmates, they were married 3 weeks later on November 8, 1956. Mary was a loving and devoted mother, Nana, Nina and Gigi. She was dearly loved by many nieces and nephews.
Mary is survived by her children, Kirk Dacus and his wife Paula of Vilas, NC; Angie Hayden and her husband Joe of Simpsonville, SC; Missie Gustafson and her husband Ron of Lancaster, MA and Cindy Livingstone and her husband Michael of Sutton, MA. Her grandchildren, Erika Stewart, Alan Seaback, Kassie Benitez, Nikki Dacus, Krysta Livingstone, Rebecca Winter, Amanda Diffin, Jason Dacus, Amber Gothie, Brodie Dacus, James Peloquin and Madison Pierce; her great-grandchildren, Isabella, Camilla, and Layla Benitez; Benjamin and Nora Winter and Logan Dacus. She also leaves behind her very dear friend, Susan Noyes. She is survived by her siblings, Donald Tolbert, Louise Hood and Shirley Edmisten.
Visiting hours for Mary will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. A funeral home service will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 10:00am at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough, MA.
