Mary O'Connor Obituary

Mary Margaret (Mullen) O’Connor, 90, of Framingham, passed peacefully at home on June 17.  Born in Milford, the daughter of Marion (Lahey) and James Mullen, “Mae” led a life of light and laughter. A 1949 graduate of St. Mary’s High School (Milford), she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” O’Connor, in 1953 while they worked at Jordan Marsh in Shoppers World, Framingham. They wed in St Mary’s Church on February 15, 1958, moved to New Jersey, and had their only child, David, nine months later. They returned to Massachusetts in 1979 and have been in Framingham ever since. Mae long volunteered in nursing home outreach and, years earlier, as an ambulance driver (striking fear in the motoring public in Pequannock, NJ). She later served as the period-costumed greeter and spilled colorful tales as raconteur at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury, guiding history tours of the Inn and the grounds nearby. Mae befriended the lonely and always looked for ways to share a laugh with visitors to the Inn, her fellow patients in medical waiting rooms, and strangers who appeared distressed. She was blessed by countless friends in Milford and New Jersey, virtually all of whom sadly predeceased her.

She leaves Bob, David, and her granddaughter, Kayleigh Mae O’Connor, who she positively adored and who takes her name, laughter and light as her own. She also leaves her cousins in the extended Mullen family in the Milford area, including Thomas A. Mullen, Katherine T. Mullen, Joseph “Jay” & Judy Mullen, and Brian & Karen Mullen, along with Kayleigh’s mother, Nancy Novo O’Connor, of Framingham. Mae and Bob were graced over the last several years with the help of the late Kathy Roberts, Joannie Mastro, and the entire McLelland family.  Services will be private.

Mae asked those around her to promise to be kind to every soul.  She’ll be watching over us, “with much love,” to be sure we keep our word.
