Mary (Fitzgerald) Tynan, 72, of Marlborough, MA, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Whittier Rehabilitation Center, Westborough, MA, following an illness. Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Teresa (Mellody) Fizgerald and the wife of John Tynan of Marlborough, to whom she had been married for the past 50 years.
Mrs. Tynan graduated from Marlborough High School in 1952. Following her graduation from Framingham State College in 1956, she began her teaching career. For several years she taught in Northborough and then at Richer School in Marlborough. In 1969, she moved to the newly opened Kane School, and taught 4th and 5th grades until her retirement in 1993. Mrs. Tynan loved her profession and was respected by her students as well as her fellow teachers.
She was a member of the former St. Ann's Parish, Marlborough and the Retired Teacher's Assoc.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons; John David Tynan, of Marlborough and Paul D. Tynan and his wife Lisa, of Marlborough. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Shaun and Nora Tynan, Jessica Goldsmith, Jamie LaRue and Jayne Tynan, and her great- grandson; Shane Goldsmith.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Church, Main St. (Rte. 20) Northborough, MA. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Clinton, MA.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. in the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, MA.
In lieu of flowers, Mary requested a random act of kindness be offered to someone in need.
