Mary Lyn (Sherwood) Weinberg Obituary

Mary Lyn Weinberg (Lyn), born on January 28,1948 in Wilmington, DE, was the first child of Dr. Laurence T. Sherwood Jr. and Mary Lou Sherwood.  She was a beloved sister to Susan, Larry, John and David Sherwood, as well as a caring aunt to nine nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Wilmington Friends School in Wilmington, DE and of Northeastern University in Boston, MA, Lyn later joined the police department in Marlborough, MA, where she worked as the first female police officer, a distinction from which she derived some satisfaction.  She later joined the United States Postal Service and managed a few local real estate properties.

As a long time member of the Framingham Friends Meeting, Lyn was well known and appreciated for her work on the grounds and on the building itself.  She loved the inherent beauty of older buildings, as her extensive repairs on her 1804 home in Marlborough bear witness.  With her three pups nearby, she and her close friend Starr Misener spent thirty summers maintaining Lyn's property, the 150 year old Kidson farmhouse near Souris, Prince Edward Island, CA.

Music was another passion of Lyn’s.  With her husband Jon Weinberg on the hammered dulcimer, she played the upright bass for contra dances and local musical events.  She also enjoyed singing and performing in the choir Women of Note.  Other interests included participating in events of both the Northborough Walking Club and the Mass Miata Club.

Lyn and Jon enjoyed travelling together.  They visited Peru and she learned scuba diving so she could accompany Jon on his dives in the Caribbean.  Along with various family members, she visited Tanzania and India, where she helped place her mother's ashes in the Ganges River.

An ardent supporter of the environmental movement, she acted locally whenever possible.  She often could be seen picking up trash along the road near her home and was delighted when people joined her effort.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.  For information about Lyn's memorial service please contact the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc. via phone at 508-485-0225 or email at info@slatteryfuneralhome.com for details.
