Peter John Massey Sr.

Peter John Massey Sr., 63, of Northbridge, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. He leaves his beloved wife of 43 years, Debra L. (Slade) Massey.

Peter was born in Whitinsville, MA on August 4, 1959. He was the son of the late Ovila and Muriel (Armstrong) Massey. He graduated from Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School (BVT) in 1977. Peter and Debra raised their 3 sons in Northbridge and is where they resided for many years until recently splitting their time between Bourne, MA and Largo, FL. 

Peter was an extremely hard and selfless worker. Most of his career he worked as a machinist at Wyman Gordon. He was also the President of the Steelworkers Union 2285 and a volunteer firefighter for the Northbridge Fire Department as well as many side jobs to provide for his family. 

Peter had many hobbies and interests which he enjoyed in his free time. He was an avid camper, enjoying the camping lifestyle since his boys were young. Peter also enjoyed boating, fishing, clamming, and playing cards. He was a member of the Valley Airs Drum Corp for over a decade and built many life long friendships. Peter was most proud of his sons, and absolutely adored his grandchildren. His most cherished days were spent with his family gathered at Bourne Scenic Campground or at the family home on Highland Street. 

In addition to his wife, Debra, he is survived by his sons, Peter Massey Jr. (PJ) and his wife Sarah of Hudson, Daryll Massey and his wife Aja of Douglas, and Erik Massey and his wife Kimberly of Northbridge.  He was a very proud “Pep” to his five grandchildren, Ava, Braylen, Dylan, Bryce, and Chase. Along with his immediate family, Peter is survived by his brother, Ronald Massey and his wife Dianne of  Northbridge, his adoring mother in law, Esther (Wheezie) Slade of Northbridge, his aunts, Gloria Armstrong of Venice, Florida and Jean Bronson of Bradenton, Florida, his brother in law, Glenn Slade and his wife Kimberly of Brimfield, his cousin Melissa Ernst and her husband Jeffrey of Venice, FL, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. 

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held at a later date.
