We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Slattery Funeral Home
On August 24,2022, Richard (Dick) Paul Bank Jr., Loving Husband to the late Mary Antoinette (Garcia) Bank and father of two children, Richard Paul Bank III, his Wife Lori Bank (Fort Meyers, Florida) and Susan Elizabeth (Bank) Plourde and her Husband Stephen Plourde (Marlborough, Massachusetts). Grandfather of two, Melissa Bank, age 19 and Brittney Bank, age 15, passed away at the age of 81.
Richard was born May 18,1941 to the late Richard (Red) & Helen (Baker) Bank here in Marlborough Massachusetts.
When Richard was 15 years old, he developed a ski club on Fort Meadow Reservoir known as the “Angels Aqua Plane”. This is where he learned to trick ski and was photographed by newspapers skiing off a ramp 35 feet in the air. At one point, he became quite good at trick skiing. One of the tricks he enjoyed doing was going underwater and would bring his girlfriend (At the time-then wife) up on his shoulders.
Apparently somewhere down the line, Fort Meadow Association said that his club’s name sounded more like a gang. So, they decided to change the name to “Fort Meadow Ski Club”.
Dick earned his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying friends and family around just for fun. He was an accomplished scuba driver. His son Richard recalls diving with his father when they lived in Florida. He was an avid swimmer, jogger and loved the game of Football. Richard in his earlier years of living in Florida played flag football for 13 years with people from work.
Richard received his Computer Engineering Degree earning his bachelors from Lowell Tech. While going to college he worked at Digital during 1959-1966 as a receiving clerk. After Graduating from College, he married the love of his life, Mary Antoinette Garcia. Together they were married for almost 50 years. During their life together their journey took them to Florida where they spent 17 years, then moved to California in 1983. Which is where they spent most of their lives together. After the passing of his beloved wife in 2015, the family decided to move to the East Coast, where he could enjoy his retirement. After going back to his childhood home, Dick picked up right where he left off – waterskiing until the age of 78.
Visiting hours for Dick will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
