Robert (Bob) Bucher, a lifelong resident of Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his home in Marlborough on January 31, 2021 at the age of 90. A devoted family man, Bob was blessed to be surrounded by his loving wife and daughters until the very end. The family is deeply grateful to Kindred Hospice for their comfort and care in his last days.
Bob was born on May 22, 1930 and raised in Waltham. After graduating from Waltham High School, Bob served honorably in the United States Air Force. Following his discharge Bob worked as foreman at Nonantum Lumber Company in Watertown until his retirement in 1990. Bob had a passion for plants and gardening and had his own part time business raising and selling rhododendrons, azaleas and vegetables to residents of the area from his home nursery.
Bob was a devoted husband of 61 years to Joan (Calore) Bucher and beloved father to three daughters - Donna Horn, married to Steve Horn, of Norwood, MA; Diane Bucher of Marlborough, MA; and Doreen Bucher, married to David Zweig, of Hastings on Hudson, NY. He was also a doting grandfather to Katherine and Michael Horn and Eliana and Zev Zweig.
Bob was a lifelong autodidact with passions for oenology, botany, history and finance. His family still benefits from the fruits of his labors of love. Bob was well-known for his wicked sense of humor and was happiest spending time with his family and large circle of friends. After he retired, Bob loved to travel the world with Joan and their daughters including trips around the US, UK and Spain, and he had a special love for Italy and his annual trips to St. Maarten.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Laura (Shepperson) Bucher and his siblings Leonard “Sonny” Bucher, Harry Bucher, Eleanor Hill and Dorothy (Dot) Hall.
A man of deep faith, his family is comforted in the knowledge that Bob has ascended to heaven, where he will be greeted by his Lord and rest in eternal peace. A funeral mass for immediate family will be said at St. Matthias Church in Marlborough on February 9, 2021 followed by a burial at the New North Cemetery in Sudbury, MA.
