Sally E. (Frisbie) Campbell Obituary

Sally (Frisbie) Campbell, a resident at the Bridges by EPOCH in Sudbury, MA passed away May 25, 2025 after complications from Alzheimer's disease. Sally was cared for by her dedicated niece Deborah Chamberlain and other family members as she progressed through the stages of Alzheimer's.

Sally was born on September 1, 1938 in Westfield, MA to Beatrice Bridget (Ferriter) Frisbie and Leroy Dwight Frisbie. She grew up in Russell with her sisters Carole (Frisbie) Burke and Marguerite (Frisbie) Chamberlain, who both predeceased her. She was quite the adventuresome child, exploring nature and the rural life of Russell and making life-long friends in the process.

She attended college at Lasell University and Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA. Her goal there was to become the best kindergarten teacher ever, and many would attest to the fact that she met that goal: she was awarded the Christa McAuliffe Prize for Courage and Excellence in Education in 1996.

A former long-time resident of Marlborough, MA, Sally dedicated forty-one years to teaching kindergarten in the Marlborough public schools. She loved her work with young children and brought the joy of learning to hundreds of Marlborough residents.

Shortly after starting her teaching career, she met a fellow teacher and the love of her life, Bruce J. Campbell, who predeceased Sally in 2018. They married in 1965, and their 53 year-long marriage was filled with joy and dedication to each other and to the community. Sally cared for Bruce lovingly with fierce dedication after he suffered a brain aneurysm that left him partially paralyzed for 23 years. Sally was equally dedicated to her many wire-haired terriers and to her gardens both in Marlborough and on Cape Cod. Sally was creative and artistic, both qualities seen in her classroom and her seasonal displays at her home.

Sally is survived by her brother in laws and sister in laws James and Mary Campbell, Richard and Norma Campbell and Linda Hallisey, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and dear friends. She will be missed and remembered dearly by all who knew her.

The family would like to express gratitude to everyone who helped care for Sally during the last years of her life. Very special thanks go out to the dedicated staff at the Bridges by EPOCH at Sudbury, the hospice team from Caring Dimensions, Tracey Driscol, Jill Solomon and her team at Transition with Care as well as Ida, Vastir, and Raquel who cared for and loved Sally as her private aids.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday June 8, 2025, from 3:00-5:00pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00am on Monday, June 9, 2025, at St Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway Street, Marlborough. She will be buried at a later date with her parents, sisters and husband in Westfield MA at the St. Mary’s Cemetery.
