We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Slattery Funeral Home
Sophie (McManus) Lacouture, 100, passed away in her home in Marlborough on May 23, 2022. She is survived by her children, Joseph Lacouture of Marlborough and his wife Terri and Catherine Samko of Worcester. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bern Samko and Jason Miller; great-grandchildren Layla, J.J., and Scarlett; and a large extended family on both the McManus and Lacouture sides. Sophie was predeceased by her husband Henry Lacouture and brother Thomas McManus.
The daughter of Francis and Catherine McManus, Sophie was born in Fitchburg, MA. She graduated from Marlborough High School and the Westborough State Hospital School of Nursing (1943). Through a long career as a registered nurse, she worked at Marlborough Hospital, Westborough State Hospital, and the Marlborough Community Mental Health Center.
For many years Sophie and Henry entertained family and friends at their second home in Marshfield. After selling the Marshfield house, they continued to host gatherings at their backyard pool in Marlborough, often featuring Sophie’s famous blueberry buckle.
Sophie also loved to travel and took a rotating cast of friends and relatives with her to destinations across Europe and the United States.
She was an active participant in the local community, something she demonstrated as a member of the former St. Mary’s Church Sodality and the Colonial Garden Club of Marlborough, among other organizations.
The family would like to thank Elizabeth Ansong, VNA Care Advantage, and Ascend Hospice for allowing Sophie to remain in her home until her death.
