Stephen T. Maker, 77, of Marlborough, died Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Born in Waltham, he was the son of the late Francis and Anne (McLaughlin) Maker, Sr., and the husband of Patricia (Bowling) Maker to whom he'd been married 55 years.

A 1968 graduate of Waltham High School, Stephen went on to enlist in the United States Navy. During his four years of service, Stephen served in Vietnam. Upon his deployment Stephen began his career as a lineman for Verizon and went on to work for other positions in company. After 30 years of service with Verizon, he retired in 2002. Not only did he work at Verizon for many years he was Chief Stuart for the local IBEW 2222, and he served on the board of directors for Liberty Bay Credit Union for over a decade.

Upon his retirement, Stephen and Patricia took the opportunity to start traveling within the United States and abroad. They started spending the colder months in Arizona. Along with Stephen’s love for traveling, he also enjoyed spending his time playing golf, and spending time with his family. 

Notably, Stephen was kind. He was generous and compassionate and well loved by family, friends and members of his community. He spent one day of the month going into Boston Children's Hospital to donate blood as he had a rare blood type. That's just the type of person he was.

Besides his wife, Stephen is survived by his daughters, Julie Kearnan and her husband Brian of Millville and Sherrie Maker of Uxbridge, his grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin and Zoey, and his siblings, Geraldine Defeo and her partner Peter, Frank Maker Jr. and his wife Kathie, Janet Emery and her husband John and David Maker and his wife Theresa, brother in law Thomas Reyes and his wife Janine Sciarappa as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many close friends.

Visiting hours for Stephen will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 2:00-4:00pm at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Mary's Cemetery, 43 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH 03820.
