Thomas Edward Greenleaf Obituary
Tom, of Marlboro, MA. passed away on November 14, 2025 at the age of 68. He was born at Framingham Hospital in 1957, on Valentine’s
Day! He was the son of Dr. Kenneth R. Greenleaf and Marjorie B. Greenleaf. Tom grew up on Moore Rd in Sudbury, MA, attending school there through graduation from Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School.
After graduating in 1975, Tom went on to post-secondary education attending universities in Colorado, Hawaii and Massachusetts. He found his calling and graduated from Middlesex Community Vocational College with a degree and extensive training in automotive mechanics. He could fix any vehicle, loving the older ones before “technology” began to interfere with a true mechanic’s aptitude. His knowledge was so extensive he later became a moderator on websites to help others with their auto issues. That was Tom's way of "adapting to the times" There weren't enough old cars around for him to fix so he did the next best thing. Moderating on-line conversations became his saving grace as he got to a point where he could no longer physically fix cars, he was still able to direct folks on doing so!
Tom also ran the NESPA painting business after his brother left the area. He was a master painter of windows and trim. Following this, over the years, Tom worked at gas stations as an auto mechanic and at GTE as a trusted courier.
Tom had a love for growing things. He could plant and grow anything. He had a love for plants, bushes, and oh my gosh, his grass. Thousands of gallons of water kept it lush and green, even though the worst of drought times. The true definition of a "Green-leaf," he certainly was!
Tom was predeceased by his parents as well as his sister, Nancy Lee Canty of Jackson, NH. The love of his life, Michael Shaldone passed
away in December of 2000. Tom cared for him in the home until he succumbed to his illness. Life was never quite the same after that, for Tom. He leaves behind his brothers, Bob Greenleaf and Ted Greenleaf and their wives Barb and Sue of Newfield Maine. Also surviving Tom are many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews whom he adored.
Prior to Mike’s death, an extensive list of ladies came to the house on Turner Ridge (Mike had a salon in their home). Michael would do their hair while, Tom would change the oil and take care of any issues they might have with their cars. It was a win-win for the customers. Tom took very good care of their vehicles!
Tom and Michael traveled to many places, but perhaps loved the time on their boat as much as anything. Michael would entertain the guests while Tom navigated the waters. As a youth, he and friend George Roth rode a 16’ boat up the coast of Mass and Maine without significant issues...a remarkable undertaking.
Tom was a conscientious neighbor, helping others as needs arose. The family appreciated all the goodwill and offers of condolence and assistance upon Tom’s passing. Their comments and stories stand as testimony to Tom’s care and concern for them. Several were there in his final hours at the hospital.
A small, informal private gathering will be held in December for family to share stories, honoring what Tom has meant to them. At some point this summer a “campfire” gathering will be held in his memory and his ashes, along with his partner’s, will be “strewn at sea” as per their mutual request. Tom will be missed. He has left indelible memories in his wake.
